‘Tonto Dikeh Should Be Scared Of Me’-Rising Nollywood Star, Shirley Igwe
Fast- rising Nollywood actess, Shirley Ogechi Igwe, no doubt,
is on the ladder to the top as she smiles to the banks every other day;
all thanks to juicy offers that are coming her way recently.
The sultry thespian and many times Face of Delta Soap/Orange Drugs recently sealed a deal with leading liquid detergent brand, Mama Lemon. In this interview exclusive interview with nigeriafilms Alonge Michael , she revealed how acting started for her, the state of the movie industry, life as a super model and many more…
What was the attraction to acting?
I fell in love with the make- believe world. It’s amazing how you can play so many characters that you are not and still be you.
So, would you say you are in the right place?
Yes, I am in the right place. I love my job. The feed back is amazing. A lot of people have said Tonto Dikeh should be scared of me. That’s their own opinion. I’ve come to create a ME, to carve a niche for myself not to take anyone’s spot/place. In fact, I’m the next big thing in Nollywood. The sky is my starting point even as I want to be a Hollywood star.
What movies have you done so far?
” Fazebook Babes/lovers”. Before that, I did “I broke my heart”, “The kings and the Maidens”. I’ve just finished “Jafar’s House”, an Oak-field movie shot on celluloid production. There are also “Babee”, “Cross of Royalty”, “Last Three Digits” and scores of others.
Who are the notable names you have worked with in the industry?
I worked with Majid Michel, Chigozie Atuanya on the set of Jafars house; Mike Ezuruonye, Yvonne Nelson, Yvonne Okoro, on the set of “I Broke My Heart”; I’ve also worked with Mercy Johnson, Oge Okoye on the set of “Fazebook Babes”; Nonso Diobi, Dr. Sid on the set of “Last Three Digits”; Tonto Dikeh, Ruth kadiri on the set of “Cross of Royalty”.
There’s this insinuation that Nollywood is slow right now; are you affected?
Is Nollywood slow right now? Movies are going to cinemas every week. Premiers here and there, is that slow?
So what is your advice to your colleagues who are fast losing hope?
Keep your hope and aspiration alive. Pray! Be very prayerful. Nothing in life is easy. You have to work have to earn hard. Bankers too work hard if not harder. So, it’s everywhere. Nollywood is going places take “Dr Bello” for an example. Don’t give up now. No, you can’t do that.
How did you click the Delta/Orange drugs advert back then and how far did it projects your career?
I went for an audition and was chosen. That’s it. And it did a lot for me. In fact, it got me the limelight which I’m enjoying till date.
How about the rumour that Tony Ezenwa, the CEO of the company dates all the beautiful models before giving them contracts?
Never! There is nothing like that, he’s a respected man and his company is reputable, he won’t indulge in a thing like that.
Can you share other modelling jobs?
I did a couple of them back then. Sky Bank, Multi-Links Communication, Oceanic Bank, Wedding Planner Magazine, there are so many that I can’t even remember. I’m currently on MAMA Lemon advert.
In between acting/modelling. which pays you more?
I’ve passion for both.
You are ravishingly beautiful, how do you cope with male attention?
Really, it’s not easy. I try to be polite and straightforward.
When would you be ready for marriage?
I’m single and ready for marriage.
Has the right man come?
If you’re the right man, make your intention known! (Laughs)
Can you tell us about your recent deal with Mama Lemon; how were you contacted?
The deal is for a year and can be extended though. They were looking for a fresh face. Sandra Ikeji (Black Dove Models) contacted me. I went and was chosen.
How much is the contract?
How much is your salary? (Laughter). If you tell me, I will gladly tell you how much the contract is for (laughs).
We learnt you are shooting your own movie; how soon?
Yes, my movie is coming up soon. I won’t rush it, I want it to come out top so I won’t rush it at all.
Can you please share your beauty secrets with us?
I make sure I don’t sleep with my make up on, no matter how tired I am.
What’s fashion to you and what determines what you wear?
Fashion is expression. How you want to express yourself. How you want to flatter your body shape. I wear what I’m comfortable in and the kind of outing/event also determines what I wear.
What’s that fashion item you spend most on?
I spent on everything. Every item is important and has to be on point.
Who is your best dressed Nigerian actor/actress?
A couple of us actually dress well so it’s pretty difficult to pick the best.
Can you please tell us about Shirley, schools attended, where you hail from?
I’ve a great personality. I’m very private, God fearing, down to earth and promising. I attended Federal Government Girls College, Owerri and Imo State University, Owerri where i studied Mass Communication and I hail from Imo state.

TINUBU BACKS AMNESTY FOR BOKO HARAM
Former
Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Thursday in Kano called
for the granting of amnesty to Boko Haram militants, insisting that they
are not ghosts as alleged by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Tinubu, the National Leader of Action Congress of Nigeria, who was in Kano to commiserate with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, over the attack on him and his convoy recently, explained that the amnesty must be based on justice, particularly for those with no blood stains on their hands.
He however said those involved in criminal activities among them must be made to face justice.
He said, “For the innocent ones among them, there must be amnesty. We cannot fight a war in our own country against minor crimes and minor people. We would only end up multiplying these people by trying to use force against our own citizens.
“I therefore disagree with the President; they are not ghosts.
“Are those people in prison ghosts? If they are, why are prison officials looking after them? Are JTF operatives fighting ghosts, do they possess magic power to see ghosts?”
According to him, security challenges in the country could also be attributed to the duplication of ministries related to Police affairs, which he said, could render the Inspector General of Police, M.D. Abubakar, incapacitated in taking firm control of security in the country.
At the Emir’s palace, Tinubu condemned the attack on the royal father, describing it as unfortunate.
The Emir, thanked Tinubu for the visit, describing him as a visionary and purposeful leader in every aspect of life by showing good example to the ordinary people.

SANUSI TO QUIT AS CBN GOVERNOR IN 2014
Sanusi Wont Seek A 2nd Term As CBN Governor
Nigerian central bank Governor Lamido Sanusi, who rescued the banking industry from near- collapse four years ago, said he won’t renew his contract when it expires in 2014.
Sanusi, who has led the bank of Africa’s biggest oil producer since June 2009, said it was never his intention to stay longer than one term. He was speaking in an interview with CNBC Africa in Abuja, the capital. Appointed in the midst of a debt crisis, Sanusi, 51, fired the chief executives of eight lenders within four months of taking office after an audit found evidence of mismanagement and reckless lending. He’s pushed for stability in the currency and helped bring inflation down below 10 percent, while at the same time antagonizing lawmakers by criticizing their spending and courting controversy for his outspoken views, most recently on China’s role in Africa. That quality of character, that boldness is a quality that will be difficult to find amongst policy makers in Nigeria,” Bismarck Rewane chief executive officer of Financial Derivatives Co., a Lagos-based business adviser, said by phone today.
Sanusi led the Monetary Policy Committee in increasing the benchmark interest rate by six percentage points to a record 12 percent from September 2010 to October 2011 to bolster the currency and curb inflation. Bond Yields
The government should name his replacement soon to help ease investors’ concerns and manage the transition, said Samir Gadio, an emerging-markets strategist at Standard Bank Group Ltd. In 2009, former President Umaru Yar’Adua didn’t name Sanusi as a replacement to Chukwuma Soludo until two days before his term ended.
The naira fell 0.2 percent to 158.95 per dollar by 3:32 p.m. in Lagos, taking its decline this year to 1.8 percent, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Yields on Nigeria’s $500 million of Eurobonds due January 2022 fell 10 basis points, or 0.1 percentage point, to 4.23 percent.
“He has a strong personality and a lot of people invested in the country just because of the personal relationship and the trust in Sanusi, and the confidence that Sanusi inspires,” Gadio said by phone from Lagos, the commercial capital China’s Role
More recently, he criticized China’s role in Africa, saying it’s contributing to “deindustrialization and underdevelopment” in the world’s poorest continent. Africa must shake off its “romantic view of China” and see it as a competitor that’s “capable of the same forms of exploitation as the west,” Sanusi wrote in the London-based Financial Times on March 11.
The Chinese government said it was concerned and dissatisfied with the comments, Xinhua reported on March 14, citing Hua Chunying, spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry

FUNAAB accident: pics of victims
LYNXXX in trouble
I'm sure some of you have heard about this incident. Some guys put the story together and sent it out...but I had to get some of the facts before posting it here...and here's what I found out.
Lynxxx, his manager and a few of his friends were involved in a scuffle at N-Tyce nite club last week Friday March 8th during a birthday gathering for singer, Praiz. But contrary to reports making the rounds that Lynxxx stabbed someone, no one was stabbed, this is according to eye witnesses present that night
Here's what led to the fight. Some UK dude called Pope who is in his late 40's sexually harassed and assaulted Lynxxx manager's cousin, a young lady called Nikki at the club that Friday night. Pope made aggressive advances towards Nikki according to eye witnesses and when she pushed him away from her, Pope allegedly slapped her on her forehead and asked the bouncers to remove her from the VIP section. Please continue...
When Lynxxx, his manager and their friends heard about what happened, they approached the guy and demanded he apologised to Nikki which Pope refused to do.
"Lynxxx and his crew left the club, and stood outside for about two hours. All they wanted was for the guy to apologize to their friend. They asked the club owner to bring Pope outside so they could settle but the guy refused to come out and refused to apologise to the girl and Lynxxx wasn't going to take someone hitting and harassing a female in his presence. As far as he's concerned there's no excuse for ever hitting a woman and so he and his crew went back into the club to confront the guy but were pushed back by the bouncers who were protecting the guy. During the scuffle, Lynxxx knocked over a table, a glass fell and Lynxxx cut his arm in the process. No one was stabbed and Lynxxx never hit anyone." An eye witness told me
Eventually Lynxxx and his crew left the club only to be invited by the police on Monday March 11th. Pope had lodged a complaint claiming that not only was he assaulted by Lynxxx but the rapper/singer also came to his office the following day to threaten his life. Pope is pressing charges for assault and threat to life. But Lynxxx claims he was at Eko Hotel all through Saturday and was never at Pope's office.
Lynxxx and his crew were at the station for over three hours yesterday and Pope has threatened to take the matter to court. Lynxxx also plans to counter-sue.
Find Lynxxx management's statement below...
This is a direct response to the accusations in various media regarding an alleged stabbing and assault by Lynxxx at Club Entyce in Lagos last Friday 8th March when he attended Praiz's birthday celebrations. At no time did Lynxxx assault or stab anyone.
It is unfortunate that instead of verifying the accuracy and extent of the incident, some media outlets have chosen to propagate unfounded rumours and speculations. Contrary to the rumours circulating the web, it is important that we communicate the following:
Lynxxx did not stab or assault any customer at n-tyce Club on 8th march 2013.
No stabbing or assault occurred on 8th March 2013 at n-tyce Club.
At no point did Lynxxx arm himself with a bottle or any other weapon.
Lynxxx was at the event with only 3 members of Syndik8
The incident in question occurred when "Pope" slapped and sexually harassed a young female who is Lynxxx's friend and his manager's cousin, which led to an outcry by many present, including celebrities such as Banky W, Uti and Lynxxx. Seeing as the young female was in tears and distraught they requested that Pope apologise directly to her, which they believed was only right given the severity of his actions. They were however disappointed when no apology was made and even worse when the club staff did not appear to take the situation seriously.
These allegations have now become a police matter and a civil suit for defamation of character.
Thank you for continued support for Lynxxx
